Should All Animals Be Treated Equal?

Animals share this planet with us. Some humans believe that non-human lives aren’t as important as our lives. Animals aren’t human so they are just a part of matter taken up unnecessary space right? Of course not. Others might feel the only exception is pets (cats, dogs, ferrets, exotic birds, rabbits, select rodents, etc). I’m here to kinda break that belief system for ya.

All lives are important. All animals should be treated equally and with the same respect as pets. This is deep and more people should think outside the box when it comes to all life forms on this planet. Here’s a story. By the way, I’m about to tell you a story that happened earlier today. This morning, me and my son Jordan were headed home from the grocery store. We were walking toward our apartment when we heard this loud screeching noise. I thought it was probably the lawn guys with their equipment, but as we came closer, it wasn’t a machine. It was a helpless Great-Tailed Grackle. We looked and just thought it was doing one of the mating calls, but that wasn’t the case. Plus it’s February and I don’t remember them being so bold in winter months. Have you ever seen a grackle flare up and do his dance to impress his female companion? We have many times! It’s pretty entertaining. This little guy was there with another Grackle who was walking after him. His legs were a bit weird and with a cry like that, we could tell he was in some serious pain. When we saw him, we just stopped. There are drivers who come through the complex and he was in the middle of the street. I didn’t want this bird to be a victim of a careless driver who simply felt this bird’s life didn’t matter.

The Great-Tailed Grackle in our complex.

Jordan and I went in our home, dropped the groceries, grabbed a shoe box if we needed it and came running back out. Jordan was ahead of me and was able to get close pretty close to the Grackle. The second bird left and could be seen in the tree right above where we were standing. The bird didn’t budge while Jordan was standing next to him. The bird was no longer yelling in pain, but had a limp. Someone came and tried to touch the bird with it’s shoe to see if he could scare the bird away. I asked him not to touch the bird with his shoe. Then this man was like, “let nature take its course.” He was basically saying, if it was dying, let it die. He left and that was that. Me and Jordan stayed with him for about 7 minutes. I know very little about birds, but if one was in situation like this fella, I would definitely help if I could.

This Grackle let us get really close. He wasn’t afraid and stared at the both of us the entire time. One thing I can say about birds is that they will trust you if you give them a reason to trust you. Me and my sons had a memorable experience with a pigeon who was after the left over chips my sons dropped on the ground a few months ago. Birds are intelligent in their own way :).

To end this story, eventually, the bird started to fluff up his feathers. He limped and moved his feet a little. I would think to see if he was okay. He then spread his wings and flew off slowly.  We both were relieved, because the last thing we both wanted to do was later see this bird’s guts smashed into the ground. I believe fate takes its place. I also believe we shouldn’t just ignore another non-human, non pet life as if it’s unimportant. We both went back in our home feeling better about the situation.

Within the past 2 years, we have rescued 2 dogs and 1 kitten.

My question to you is this. Should all animals be treated equal?

Tips to Start a Healthy Food Lifestyle

It can be challenging starting a healthy eating plan that actually works. We live in a world where most of our food is a joke and is making huge corporations wealthy. Some say not to worry about buying organic fruits and vegetables because there’s a very little difference while others highly recommend these foods. No matter how difficult it may be, I’m here to tell you that there’s still hope to live a better life and there’s no need to settle in poor eating habits. Here are some tips that can help you get started in the right direction!

Consuming Less Starch & Wheat

Pasta can be a tasty, fulfilling dish, but there can be some problems with eating too much of it. Pasta is full of chemicals that can cause complications in the body including cancer and other illnesses. Too much starch isn’t good for our bodies period. It’s not easy to just go cold turkey and let it go either. Believe me, I still enjoy a good pasta dish from time to time. Wheat contains gluten which is glue. It causes our intestines to stick together. Just think about that for a moment. We eat unhealthy foods that do not leave our bodies in an appropriate amount of time, then we’re eating gluten that makes our intestines stick together like glue. That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. How we can deal with this situation is to eat starch in moderation while creating a diet which is high in fruits, vegetables, and natural herbs.

Eating Less Meat

Have you heard the horror stories about the meat in our local grocery stores? I have! This is one of the reasons why I decided to practice a Vegan lifestyle. It is horrifying to know that most of our foods cause the diseases we hear about today. How I began to eat less meat lowering my meat intake to 1 meal a day. It was either at lunch time or for an early dinner. This allowed my body to eventually adjust to consuming less meat. I added foods that are high in protein like chia seeds and quinoa seeds and a select few of nuts.

Remove Pesticides from Fruits and Vegetables

Due to the pesticides that are sprayed directly on these foods, Health Specialists recommend buying and consuming organic foods. In some cases, this is true, but not in all cases. Everything that’s organic isn’t considered the real deal. For instance, Organic Kale is considered a hybrid food. I was disgusted to see organic carrots which are a crossbred vegetable. Non-hybrid foods are foods that are grown naturally on this earth. They are pure, electric with nutrients and not crossed with any other foods. When it comes to eating non-organic foods, there are ways to detox these foods. I’ve found this detoxification recipe on YouTube. It’s on Jay Kordich’s channel (the link is here For pesticide removal, they recommend putting your fruits and vegetables in a sink full of cold water, add juice from ½ lemon, 1 tablespoon of pink Himalayan sea salt, soak for 15 minutes and rinse. This is known to remove the pesticides from the outside of fruits and vegetables.

Hope these tips are helpful to get you started! God bless!

My Journey Mind, Body & Spirit

Its been a while since I’ve started and executed a Fit Mamas challenge and here’s why. No matter what I was doing or how I was eating, I struggled to lose weight. In recent years, a diet isn’t a part of the solution, but would spend my time working out. Even when I would tell myself to eat healthy, I’ll end up over consuming. This was causing my weight to stay the same.

After realizing this and having less cheat moments, I’m getting results without really trying. I’ve officially changed my eating habits to a Vegan/Vegetarian diet. I eat cheese occasionally. When I way occasionally, I literally mean once every 2 weeks or so. My meals are a lot smaller, but I eat a lot! I eat a high volume of fresh fruits, vegetables, lentils and nuts.

I absolutely love steamed Kale and have been working on staying away from crossbred produce. These hybrids have no nutrients and aren’t electric. On the physical side, I walk about 45 mins to 2 hours 6 days a week. I’m currently looking for a gym membership😊.

In addition, I’ve been practicing Yoga with my sons, meditating, and spending time with my creator. Reading has become my new favorite hobby. My mission is to be at one with myself and the Universe through mind, body and soul.

What are some ways you’re working on a healthier lifestyle?
